ARGUMENTATIVE WRITING CONSTRUCTION OF EFL WRITING CLASS THROUGH DECLARATIVE SPEECH ACTS APPROACH

ABSTRACTThis study investigates how Indonesian undergraduate EFL students construct argumentative essays through critical discussion using Declarative speech acts and pragmatic approaches. This employed a qualitative research method. The data consist of authored by majoring in English at private university Indonesia (N=34). Students worked pairs to discuss controversial topic, separated into protagonist antagonist groups. analysis showed that used four steps argumentation: confrontation, opening, argumentation, conclusion. Most confrontation opening stages the introduction, argumentation stage developing paragraph, end with To understand purpose types acts, which have different functions: assertive, commissive, declarative, directive speeches. Implementing declarative theory helps comprehend writing trains them good thinking resolving opinions.
